AI-Assisted Is Not AI-Generated

I listen to a lot of podcasts, and it’s common to hear the hosts say stuff like “that image was AI. AI images are cringe.”

Or if I’m listening to something more business-oriented, I’ll hear comments like “AI videos are so bad.”

Same with AI slop content, useless social comments, etc. Anything low-quality that was generated 100% by AI. You get the picture.

But when people talk about not liking AI images, videos, or content, they are expressing their dislike of something completely generated by AI with no human input or filter.

Yet the most effective creators out there use AI all the time in their work. The difference?

It’s AI-assisted, not AI-generated.

AI-assisted means AI is helping with the layout, the structure, the heavy lifting, while you're still the one making decisions. You're still the one who cares about the outcome. AI is handling the parts that eat your time without adding anything only you can add.

When done well, you’ll never notice that AI was involved.

That’s the point!

AI-generated is lazy. No barrier to entry. Sloppy.

AI-assisted is everything else. It’s how many people create good content more frequently and connect with their audience.

I laugh when people tell me they don’t like AI content as a blanket statement, because AI helps me with every piece of content I put out.

It builds the email layouts and helps turn my voice notes into a draft.

It tells me when I misspell something or lose the point in a sentence I added.

So if you’re afraid to put yourself out there or use AI as your co-pilot, I encourage you to think differently.

Think of AI-assisted as being superhuman: getting more done and leaving more time for the work that actually needs you.

It means having AI take on the work you shouldn't be doing anyway (or don’t want to do, so you avoid it), which, if I'm being honest, is probably 70% of white-collar work.

The "AI is bad" crowd is right about AI-generated laziness.

But they are probably unaware that the best content they see has AI all over it.

Until next Saturday,
Jeff Sauer
