AI Agents Are Like Teenage Sex
Using them is one thing. Trusting them to run on their own is a different conversation.
Avinash Kaushik had a line about social media back in 2009.
“Social Media is like teenage sex. Everybody’s talking about it. Everybody wants it. But nobody knows what they’re doing.”
AI agents are in that exact phase right now.
Here’s the honest version: I use AI agents in some form every day. My whole team is able to automate certain tasks by using AI, and do it repeatedly.
But we’re also babysitting them constantly to review outputs, catch edge cases, and stay in the loop.
That’s where most of us actually are. Using them, yes. Trusting them to run unsupervised? That’s a different thing entirely.
And if you’re selling this work to clients, it gets more complicated fast because it can go sideways, or it can open a completely new service line. Sometimes both.
